Great to hear. you will learn more spending a couple hours with a skilled user than you will spending 6 months reading.
Be just and fear not.

Thanks syslight. Have already discussed a learning plan and have embarked on the first few shaves (partial face) using a shave ready supplied by John.

Hi krisbowe, I have aquired a few great razors from John.
I am envious that you two have got together at the start of your SR adventure.
Wishing you well from NQ.

Thanked: 0hey guys i want to get into straight razor shaving I live in Melbourne and have a mother who is worried about me reducing my face to ribbons... (I'm 17 years old) I was just wondering if this John Mrson is located in Melbourne?, has a shop and maybe he could convince my mother otherwise. Also if I am able to start straight razor shaving i would be after someone to hone my blades or teach me too.

Thanked: 983Darcy, just send John a PM, but yes he is in Melbourne, I don't know where exactly though. As for slicing your face to ribbons, I would say you would have to be a fair clutze to manage that. Yes you can get a cut (as opposed to a nick), and it does happen, but it's very rare, and the person who does it has usually admitted to doing something without due care or thought anyway.
If you maintain your attention on the postion of the edge and what you're doing, you won't get anything worse than a nick everyso often. All your mum is managing to do, is instill her fear of the unknown into you. Men have been shaving this way for thousands of years. It's only in recent times that we have had these so called safety razors.
If worse comes to worse, and your mum won't have you and an Open razor in the same house together, you can always get yourself a DE. It's the next best thing as far as quality shaves go, and you get to use everything bar the strop that goes with having an Open. Then when your 18, you just nip out and get a strop and Open razor anyway .
