    Default hello from fort riley

Hello everyone just started straight razor shaving. Started with a cheep shavett from sally's beauty supply (i know real manly) anyway just picked up two vintage razors today the one that is shave-able is a felt pad razor works straight razor. I am positive it could use a good honing so hopefully i will be able to get one soon. I tell you what trying to learn how to shave with a shavett is rough feels like my face has been attacked by a angry cat lol. Here is a pick of my new toys the one in the middle has a very large crack about a 1/8th of a inch from the point running from the blade edge to almost the spine i think i may cut it and make it a shorty or somethingName: straight razor.jpg

    Welcome to SRP!
Lots of people seem to start with a shavette... they are cheap and fairly available and you do not need other strops and hones to maintain them. the downside is that they are not a comfortable to shave with. for some of the best info try the beginner's guide

we have a fair number of folks from KS so you might be able to find somebody that hones near you, look in the classifieds under member services

so besides the razor what other shaving gear do you have?

    ask questions

    enjoy,
    jim

Welcome to the forum Chad. Jim has pretty much said anything else I might have mentioned. Enjoy.

So how is life with the "Big Red Wiener"?

Felt Pad razor works are good razors from around St Louis, they also had a competitor, Non Felt Pad .

As your beard prep and shave technique improve the cat wont scratch as much.LOL

I don't have very much in the way of gear. I have some cheap soap and brush that i bought at the post exchange for around 10 dollars. It is funny i was talking with my wife about some of the fellows on here looking for army issued razors and how when those razors were issued the solders prob complained that they sucked but now are very sought after. makes me wonder 40 or 50 years or longer what gear i hated that some young guy is going to be seeking out. I apprisiat the words of encouragement. Life in the big red one is im guessing about the same as it always is mostly stupid some fun and cold half the year.
