Thanked: 21New and eager to learn
Christian here, 17 years of active military service and going strong, living in Eureka, Ca,(if you don't know where that is don't feel bad, i didn't either till i got here.) a long 5 hour drive north of beautiful San Francisco. I'm new to both SR shaving and this site, and looking forward to learning both. I currently have a beautiful new Dovo SR that I'm looking forward to using as soon as i can get my strop(nowhere in this town to get anything close to usable)and a couple that I picked up from the sales around that i look forward to changing the scales of. (I'm in redwood country so that might make for a very nice starter scale) Anyway I'm looking forward to being a sponge an taking in as much as i can and hoping some actually sticks. I'm ready for the blood sweat and tears, well really only the blood part, as I'm sure there will be some.

Thanked: 1263Welcome Christian. Being a sponge is good, especially around here..there's alot to take in. The learning curve of a straight takes a bit of time so be patient and have fun with the journey. Enjoy.

Thanked: 983Welcome Christian, you sound ready to start, but is your razor up to the task? Just thought I'd check that with you before you put blade to face .

Thanked: 21Mick, thanks for the reply, I believe the razor (new Dovo)is as eager to go as I am. But as i mentioned I don't have a strop yet. Iif I'm going to do this i better do it right. And in the meantime I'll continue to read and educate myself, this way hopefully I wont ruin the razor or strop.

Thanked: 983No worries mate. Just thought I'd ask, because I started out with a brand new Dovo that was 'shave ready' from the factory. Problem is that factory shave ready isn't as good as Pro honed shave ready. I found this, and the fact that strops are required after every shave, out the hard way. Just trying to look out for you mate.

Thanked: 21Do you have a recommendation for a good strop? And your right on the money, the Dovo is right out of the box so I'll wait till i get the strop before i test her out. Also is that your dog in the picture? It looks almost exactly like my Jack Russell, good looking dog.

Thanked: 21Thanks again, I'll check out the site. And my Jack Russell Bella is my wing man or should i say wing dog. And i have the SR bug now, just picked up a couple more SR's and left one at the store ill probably kick myself about. I'm going to post the info on the razor forum and see if i made a big mistake leaving it there. The one i found online of that razor was almost $500. I'm in a very small town so there are tons of antique stores and they let things like razors go very cheap. Especially the ones i picked up in the last couple of days.

Thanked: 983I'm a fan of George Wostenholm. I would have bought it myself. Smooth shavers. I love my old Wosty, but I think age and rust spots close to the edge have done for it. It's out of the rotation until I get time to see what I can do to save it. If it can be saved at all. It was the second or third razo I ever bought for myself.
