    Default New from ACT, Australia

    Hi all,

Just started poking around the forum and thought I'd better introduce myself before I started asking questions.

I have a couple of older straight razors and a newer Timor razor I've had a play with. I'm now interested in forging out my own.

I've made a few knives and have a little work-shop set up so I'm good to go.

I'm gonna start of with some simple designs but my 'grail' razor will be a Damascus blade (forged myself) with hand-forged titanium hammered scales. (This may be a while in the making!)

I'm curious to know whether there is any books or sites that have patterns or designs for blade shapes. I realise (from my reading here and google) that there is certain tips, grinds etc, but there is so many different shapes.

Once I get some blades forged out ill post up some pics. Got to finish a few knives first but hopefully get started soon. I have some 1075 and D2 to play with first.

    Hi, welcome!

Baldy, who lives up North from you I think, makes his own razors, and they look very cool...

G'day and welcome to the forum. I can't help you with any info on making a straight razor but as a keen razor collector, I'd love to get one made by an Aussie.

I guess we'll have to see how we'll they turn out then : ) perhaps some Aussie hardwood scales would be in order.

    G'Day and welcome, Matt.

Glad to have you on board.

Stu (str8raz0r) makes his own blades, too - maybe it might be worth shooting him a PM as well.

Luke (McDuck) lives down your way now and has a good collection of razors - you might be able to get together with him as well.

Welcome Matt...No, that just sounds strange...G'day Matt and welcome to the forum. I'never tried my hand at razor making, though I've made and sold a few knives in my time. Enjoy, and make sure you post pictures of any razors you forge.
