    Default Hello from Dallas, TX

    Hello everyone,

I am just getting into this Straight Razor experience. This last Saturday I took my wife to Sally's Beauty store for a little treat. and I discovered that they cary straight razors (I thought). So with much anticipation I purchased a $7 "razor" and two packs of double edge blades. When we got home I laid out my new toys and read the instructions that came with the razor, after breaking a razor blade in half I carefully inserted one of the halves into the blade holder and the holder into the "blade". With great anticipation I took my "straight razor" into the bathroom sink and splashed my face with hot water and used a bar of hand soap to wash and then lather up my face. At this point I was beside myself with anticipation of a smooth and comfortable shave.....Well I was very dissapointed to find my face looked like it had received the wrath of a rabbid cat. At this point I had the idea that if I grabbed a towel and quietly went to the room and took a nap this would be the end of it. Is life ever this easy? NO, my wonderful loving wife walked in and started cackling at the sight of my face and, between laughs, told me that a Safety Mangaer should not have to be told that playing with knives is dangerous. So right there and then I decided to find the PROPER equipment and supplies to learn this new skill and to become very proficent at it. Well that's how I landed here, now I humbly ask your assistance in learning how to shave with this new tool. thank you all in advance for your assistance in this new endevor.

    Respectfully,
    Searn Rodgers

    Welcome to SRP!
got to just love those shavettes!

sorry about the experience but you are in luck it is almost time for a texas meetup!

for supplies you might want to get in contact with Larry at whipped dog he specializes on entry level cosmetically blemished razors and also carries strops and all the other gear you might need and he is around your area.

    enjoy,
    jim

Welcome from another beginner and fellow Texan! Just as you, I started out with a shavette and had similar results. My face still bears the marks of those initial few days. I have been shaving now with a SR (A Dovo Best Quality) and things are going well (check out my post from this morning in the beginner's forum).
