Hi and welcome, you can try one of straight razor sets from online stores. There are few stores that advertise on this site but there are others out there. They will sale a strop and a razor which he will need if this is his first razor. As far as razors, if you are looking at new, you have Hart Steel, DOVO, Thiers Issard and Boker. These are generally viewed as good brands. You need to also decide on size. 5/8 is in the middle so that is a good place to start. He can decide later on if he would like a larger of smaller razor. Price goes up with fancier handles, gold wash ect. But this does not mean it will shave better than an entry level one. Besides that look in the help section. You will find lots of info. Hope this helps.

Dovo is a recommended starter razor. You can buy one from Straight Razor Designs or from Classic Shaving in a bundle with a strop and a decent starter brush. There are other vendors, but either of these will deliver quality service. Good luck and, he is a lucky man.

Welcome! I would add to the already good advice here to make sure you get a razor that has been honed to a shave ready edge. Many websites will do this for you but not all of them so make sure that the razor you purchase is listed as shave ready. Another option is if you want a razor that will be delivered with a factory edge is to send it out to one of the fine gents here to have it honed for you.

I'd recommend the new Feather SS razor with Pro-Guard blades. The expense will be below that of a conventional straight razor, and there will be no need at this point for strops, pastes, hones or anything else. He can eventually get all that if he wants to, but the Feather SS will immediately give him the best straight shaves he can get.

Ace is right on. No muss, no fuss. I'd go with the Japanese handle.
She's using a Feather:
