I am going to guess that if your blade is pulling and not cutting and makes your skin burn too, then you have a dull/rough edge on the blade. You could try the pasted balsa strop and then the hanging strop to see if that improves things.

Hey BobH noticed your in thunder bay also. I'm brand new to this and so far had a hard time finding anything in town that deals with SR's. If you know anything about stores that sell blades, good quality creams/soaps/oils, please let me know as I'd love to be able to buy this stuff in town rather than ordering everything online.

Hi BobH and LikesBBS! I see the two of you are from Thunder Bay and am taking an interest to straight razor shaving. Yet to buy a razor so any words of advice about what to look for, or anything locally would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Hey cj welcome to the forum. The pickings are pretty slim locally for used razors and no new ones. You might want to read this http://straightrazorpalace.com/aucti...bay-101-a.html if you want some tips on what to watch out for. PM your phone number and a good time to call if you want to talk.

Are you pulling you skin while shaving, helps a ton. As I have also learnt you will be surprised at how little pressure you need on the blade when it is truly sharp. Don't dispare, it will take time.

    Good Luck and Welcome
