Default Hello I have a few questions!

Hello...my name is Tim. I have been using a SR for two weeks. I love it! The razor has told me when I moved the wrong way a couple of times.... But my wife says I'm still good lookin except I have a closer shave! I nicked my strop a couple times. Do I just need to keep the blade off of that area when stooping? When do I need to use the crox spray? Do I put it on the fabric webbing side I don't use everyday? I have one SR...should I get another since I shave everyday? My blade appears to have water spots on it. I dry and oil it after each use. Am I doing something wrong? I am using a 5/8 Dovo best quality. Can you give me any advice being this new? Thanks for reading!!

Hi Tim welcome to SRP. If you've nicked your strop slightly you can sand it with a fine sand paper or pumice stone and flatten any chips on the edges if you want to. If you cut it to where there is a flap contact cement works well to fix it IME.

I would use the fabric side as it is, in addition to, and before the leather side of your strop. Do maybe 20 on fabric and 30 round trips on leather. Some guys do more. Go to tandy or take an wide belt and glue it onto a piece of flat wood for the chrom-ox. You will only use that once in awhile if the razor needs a little extra sharpness. Good to have though, I wouldn't be without it.

If you pick up some metal polish , like flitz, maas, semichrome ..... that on a q-tip will help with the water spots. Use a paper towel to rub/wipe it. If there is gold wash on your blade the polish will take it off too. In some areas water spots are a problem due to minerals or whatever in the water. I've learned to live with them.

Thanks for the help! How often would I need to use the crox? I have average beard and using the same razor every day? Should I get another one and alternate days?

It is always good to have a couple of razors in rotation. Same with shoes IME. Makes things last that much longer. Also if one gets to where it needs honing you can have the other to shave until you tend to the other , or send it out. Matter of fact more than two is what I've got but that is another story.

If the razor seems to be losing some of its sharpness do 5 round trips on chrom-ox on a paddle or flat bed strop. Don't use your daily strop. If it still needs a bit more try 5 more round trips (back and forth) You can got to a hobby store and in my neck of the woods 3 feet of 3" wide aircraft balsa is about $3.00. Take a 12"x3" piece and glue it onto a flat surface or just lay it on a counter top. Spray that and it makes a good substrate for using the chrom-ox.

Thanks again! I'm looking in Lynn's store for another Dovo. I'll stick with what I know for now!

Some women think that dueling scars make a man better looking. You're lucky to have one of those.

    Welcome to the club!
