Thanked: 0Newbie here
Hi guys (and gals),
The name's Matt.
I'm originally from London, but now live in Central New York.
I got back into using a DE razor a couple of months back, after a 30 year hiatus (what was I thinking all that time?!) with a view to going on to a straight edge.
I'm now back in the groove, but figure two or three months before I take the plunge.
Been reading Lynn's recommendations for beginning and they make perfect sense, though I would add that it's probably a good idea
to do it with plenty of time to spare, and not first thing in the morning before work!
Got a couple of questions I'd like some feedback on, if you'd be so kind.
I wear glasses and the technique I see most people use to stretch the sideburn area (free hand over the head and pulling up from the top of the ear line)
seems a bit impractical, as the specs frame gets in the way and gets pulled up too, resulting in the glasses being crooked.
Not a problem with the DE, as stretching's not so important and I can get away with tilting the head.
Any suggestion's?
My second question, I'm sure, will open a can of worms.
Although I usually use Al's shaving cream, I've been thinking about trying the Hydrolast products that go with "method shaving".
While I certainly wouldn't want to try and pitch a straight edge, as you would a DE, I was wondering if any of you think it an advantage
with an SE, in terms of allowing the skin to to be more compliant and, dare I say it, better protected?
Cheers

Welcome to SRP!
Some people take their glasses off, not me personally as i would then loose my glasses. i slip the tips of my finger between the frame and my face and pull up and take a short stroke, then re-grip below the frame and continue.
No can of worms for the second question. Folks around here use nearly anything to shave with form plain water to $80 shaving creams, some are more comfortable than other methods. Personally, i like using shaving soaps but i have a bunch of creams as well. Try the hydrolast and let us know what you think.
what possessed a chap from London to move to the city that starts with "U" ... oh there must have been dark days in the kingdom!
enjoy,

Hi Matt
Welcome to SRP. I have the same problem with my glasses, I don't stretch for the first inch of my side burns, I also try to put my glasses to the edge of my nose when I do my neck, seems to give me a clearer view.
