    Default Greeting from Hondo, Texas!

    Hello Everyone,

I have enjoyed spending the last couple of days reading the enormous wealth of information on this site, but have enjoyed seeing all the magnificent straight razors posted here even more!

Although I sport a full beard, I am a daily straight razor, neck shaver. I got my first straight razor, a Dovo Jr., from a knife store in the mall as a teen almost 20 years ago. I used it a few of times, until I decided to "improve" the edge, by sharpening it as you would a knife on a whetstone. Well, being made useless for shaving, it went into a junk drawer for about 15 years. About six years ago, I became an avid hobby woodworker, and took a great interest in hand tools. Through using handplanes, I learned to hone and strop my irons, and would regularly test their edge by seeing if they could shave arm hair, and that's when I remembered my old Dovo. Along the way, I picked up an old Trusteel razor because it had a cool looking celluloid bone handle and got it back in working order.

Both of my straight razors are pretty common razors, and had good steel that held an edge well using the scary sharp method so I never really thought about collecting razors or researching them further. That is until I started looking into the possibility of using O-1 steel to make my own straight razor that will be left over from a couple more handplanes I intend to build - that is when I found this site.

    Glad I did...

    Welcome my friend!

Pick up some 1/4x1 O-1 steel and get at it...but I warn you that it's addictive! The Forge and Workshop has enough info to truly entice you right into our little web...

Thank you and God Bless, Scott
