Thanked: 0Hello from Indiana
What is the best way to get started without spending a fortune? I like the idea of purchasing a vintage razor but not sure where to go from there. Would a kit be a better option?

Thanked: 36Hi Sam,
Welcome to SRP. I started fairly inexpensively with a kit from SRD and would highly recommend them. You can get everything you need in a kit from one vendor and you can be sure that the razor is "shave ready", which is one of if not the most important things. You can also check the classified section here at SRP if you would prefer something a little more "vintage" that is shave ready.
If you haven't already, read this:
http://straightrazorpalace.com/begin...ead-first.html
and also at the top left on the main SRP page read the "beginners guide" for some tips and pointers of things you will need and/or may want.
Again, welcome to SRP and happy shaving!

Hey, Sam, and welcome.
JC is telling you right. SRD does a good kit. As an alternative, Whipped Dog has a rather enduring positive reputation (I've not tried). For vintage as a new guy, You might search to see if there are any experienced guys near you that could help you select, and if need be, touch up a 'shave ready' blade from classifieds. Then its just strop, brush and suds of choice.
