Thanked: 0Newbie from South Florida
Hello to all. I'm from Pembroke Pines, Florida. I just got into straight razor shaving this week. I purchased a kit from The Art of Shaving in Aventura. Got home and got on YouTube for some much needed advice.
Long story short, I shaved with no stitches required. Only problem I had was that I was shaving so slow, the shaving cream started to dry and fly off like snow. I relathered, but I'm still not quick enough. I'll take my time though. This will be my third shave and I'm getting better.
I'm glad I made this investment. Money well spent.
Thank you.
Ray.

Hi Ray, welcome to SRP. I'm up around Lake Worth in Palm Beach county. There are a few SRP members in your general area. I can remember my first week or two shaving with a straight, the lather drying out on one side before I got to the other. Wasn't long before I was up to speed and that was no longer an issue. The shaves will get better and better to where most of us don't want to shave any other way.

Thanked: 0I'm on my third shave and I don't want to shave any other way. Only thing is that when I have to be downtown Miami early in the AM, I like to leave early, so no way will I be using the straight razor. On the other hand I have noticed that after using the straight, I don't have to shave the next day, which I love. Today being Sunday, I'm going to shave tonight to save time tomorrow.
Thanks for your reply also.

Thanked: 177You could lather half the face the the other side although its a good idea to have the lather on longer to soften the whiskers. There a lot to learn but nothing you can't handle. Good luck.

Thanked: 21Welcome Ray I'm also from South Fla. As I spent most of my life in Lauderdale and many a trip to Aventura mall. While I really like the AOS product especially the lemon there are tons and tons of other product you could also try. I'm new myself and I'm sure plenty of people wi give better advise but I think you gave the best answer already known, relather as often as needed and take allllll the time you need, it ain't broke don't force a fix. Have you tried a soap yet?I love Mikes natural, great lather and lubrication and you won't hear many complain about MWF its incredible in my book especially when I mix a bit of the lemon AOS cream with MWF awesome smeall, lather, lube etc. There are endless possibility and a ton of knowledge to be found on this site, just dig.
Respectfully
Christian

Welcome!
Definitely don't rush the shave. If you have to grab the brush and relather it's no trouble. Even add a couple drops of water. Finish shaving with another method if time is short.
Also make sure to pm jimmy and find some of those other guys in your area. It will be worth a trip to meet up with one or two more experienced members.

Thanked: 0I haven't tried the soap yet. What I got was expensive so I'll use this for now. Actually, I wish I had one of those machines that heat up the lather.

Aloha and welcome to SRP. Hot lather machines such as the Lather King are not meant for home use once a day. My father is a Barber he has had one for years but it needs to be used multiple times a day or it will gum up and break. Latherking Latherizer Machine
Aloha,
