Cool Yo Yo from Youngstown, Ohio!

Howdy All! I'm a new member to the forums, but a long-time reader of the valuable information on here. I've been shaving with a Hess EZ-Shaver SR for about 5 years or so... Been through a few handles (plastic snaps at the upper pin over time). I usually would stop into my barber's to pick up another few packs of replacement blades. They worked surprisingly great and gave me a great shave and a good feel for how to use a SR. Been shaving with a soap puck and brush in a mug for many years. This year for the holiday season, my GF bought me a SRD 3" Latigo strop w/ the poly-web also (knowing I didn't have a strop, not knowing I didn't have a razor to use on it). So, what better reason to come up with a real knife! I decided to talk to my barber and have him get me an inexpensive "starter" that I could potentially ruin before dumping some cash into something sweet and smooth. He ended up getting me a Fromm 72r, barber hone, and some strop dressing. As I'd read on here, the Fromm isn't always TRULY "shave ready". This was the case. So I honed it, stropped it and still was a crappy shave (jumping all over). After reading a few threads, I came across one that said to adjust the blade angle on the hone a bit by doubling up on the tape at the spine. After hitting it again on the hone and strop, SUCCESS. I'm getting a great shave from a relatively inexpensive starter SR. Since, I bought a refinished vintage Wostenholm I-XL for 40 bucks on the 'bay. Should be here this week. Looking forward to giving that one a go for a while before jumping into a NEW something sweet. All the threads on here have helped tremendously and I'm hooked on the heavy knowledge and opinions contained here. Peace and Love, brothers and sisters.

Welcome to the forums, im originally from the Cleveland area. SRD strop, great product, probably doesn't need any strop dressing. the best thing would be to just rub you palm on it a bit every day and that should be all it needs.

You're right. The strop was definitely not in need of any conditioning. It showed up and even though it sat unused for a couple months, it was smooth and ready to go. I've got a quick-draw colt holster and belt that could use a brightening with it anyway. Hadn't heard the palm trick, I'll do that. Thanks!
