Thanked: 1New guy checking in
Hey there gents. I've been wet shaving with a straight for about 2 years now. Lately interest in shaving has been waning as I rarely ever had a real nice accomplished shave. So what did I do? Ordered a razor from Larry at Whippeddog and holy cow, my stuff was dull! So now I'm jumping back in: recently bought my first soap (was using cream before), first aftershave (bring the burn!), and I'm looking to invest in some hones.
Here's my gear (not pictured Illinois razor strop co 361)
The Dovo Ebenholz was my first razor, and has never truly had a "shave ready" edge. I twice had it honed on Norton stones, though the shave was mediocre at best compared to the Sheffield which I procured from Larry. Eventually I'd like to restore the Keen Kutter and begin collecting.
Anyways, thanks for having me!

Having a shave ready razor makes all the difference. Send you other razor out to get honed by a pro.

Thanked: 2209I agree with TrilliumLT, send that razor out to a pro. Look in the SRP Classifieds Ads section. You have a number of good choices.
BTW, where are you from? Maybe someone is in your area....?Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

Thanked: 1Thanks for the recommendation guys. The reason for buying a razor from Whippeddog was to experience a true shave ready razor, it's a 1/4 hollow Hargreaves Smith & Co. Imperial Razor (Sheffield steel). The thing mows down facial hair. I also had the opportunity to try out a pro honed Dovo best quality which confirmed the performance of the Sheffield. I'm chomping at the bit to grab a set of Naniwa stones and begin the adventure for the best edge*.
I'm also looking at replacing that Art of Shaving sampler brush with a PC Woodcrafters brush, most likely a 24mm silvertip knot (open to suggestions).
*Edge that I can achieve
