Warm Greetings, Scotsman.
The restoration is fascinating. If I could make a suggestion, it would be to start w/ a shave ready blade from a member that uses one daily so you can first learn the shave. The reason for a pro quality edge is so you get used to the feel of a good edge. Then, when you take up honing & restoration, you'll know what you're aiming for. I made the painful error of trying to learn the shave at the same time I learned to hone. That's why I'm called pinklather. It was colorful, and made me take alot longer to learn the shave.
You'll get LOTS of great help here. I think you'll find the quality of the help and quality of the attitudes to be exceptional. 'Hope to hear more from you.
