Thanked: 0Hello
Good Evening Everyone,
Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Daniel and I am hopefully in about two weeks going to enter in to a bit of the straight razoring world.. I ordered the Dovo Shavette to start with. I have read in some places that it is not recommended to start with it, but due to my current situation, I am not really able to get all the components necessary to have a real straight right now. I am currently deployed and figured it was time to take a leap from the cartridge world. I have always suffered from ingrown hairs, and shaving has been the typical painful chore. Well, I look forward to being active on the forums and meeting all of you. Thanks for your time.

Hello Daniel, and welcome to Straight Razor Place! Good to have you with us.
I have good news for you; many have reported that ingrown hair problems can be improved upon using straight razors.
Looking forward to seeing you around.

Thanked: 0Str8Fencer,
Thanks for the warm welcome. For the last two days I have tried to shave in the pattern that I will be using with a straight (WTG,XTG,ATG) and holy crap it feels so much better. In just the two days that I have been doing it, my face it feeling so much better. Can't wait for the lather and blade!

Welcome in,
I also started into the world of straight razors with a shavette,
just keep in mind when you switch to real steel there is a bit of a difference and a mild learning curve with them as well.
Great folks here and tons of information, if you can't find the answer ask away.
Regards

I find if I need to shave quickly after a couple hours of sleep or if I'm in the field, the light pressure and good lather make all the difference. I always thought a three pass shave meant razor burn and doing so five or more days in a row meant I had to have a break by the weekend...now that I've learned the value of pressure and a good lather, I know different...good luck!

Thanked: 0Pfries,
I appreciate the warm welcome.. I can't wait for the blade to get here.. I am planning that upon my return to the states when things are more stable, that I will use the shavette as a travel blade, and keep the real steel for the house. Any tips for the transition would be helpful, if you have the time. Thanks for the reply.

Thanked: 0K37,
From my experience over the last few days, this seems to be the truth.. I have already had a much better experience with just working in the canned shaving cream a lot more, and light pressure. I think that I will be excited to shave once I get the blade.. Sounds silly, but it is true.

For me the angle and feel of the blade as it shaved was a slight bit different.
I had to watch it as I would start to use to much pressure if I did not.
A few days of minor irritation during my transition and all was good.
P.S. Thank You for your service,
My oldest son just returned from deployment in early April. It is just Whisker Whacking
