Default New to straight razor shaving

Devildog6569 if you haven't guessed is former Marine 1965-1969. My name is John, married for at least 4,236 years or somewhat close. Vietnam veteran. I have used double edge, injector and now straight razor maybe 4 times. My wife said I was crazy with my shaking hands to put a sharp device to my throat! Maybe she is right but no nicks yet. I have been stocking up on vintage straights to dabble in restoration for my use and enhance my honing skills, minor skills at this point . I do have an assortment of stones so here to get any help at all will be appreciated.

    Hey Devildog,

Welcome to SRP!! & Semper Fi!! 65 to 71 for me, Vietnam 67-68, Dong Ha. So you got those shaky hands too. I had some trouble honing early on because of it, but the repetition of the honing turned out to be quite therapeutic and I do fairly well now...it really helped a lot.

Lots of good info here on the site, you might find this link interesting and helpful since you want to do restorations. http://straightrazorpalace.com/works...wers-here.html

Also the two links below to the wiki and beginners tips are really helpful. If you have questions at anytime, just ask, lots of helpful members here ready to lend a hand!!

    Enjoy the forum!!!

    Best Regards,

    Howard
