Thanked: 0Greetings from Canada!
Hello fellow throat cutters,my name is Brett and instead of testing the waters i have decided to jump right into the world of straight razor shaving. For the past six years i have dabbled in electric shavers and injectors but have found that they pale in comparison when visiting the barber. Today I bought my very first razor an older Boker King Cutter that I couldn't pass up. I hope to educate myself using the wisdom of other members here in hopes of possibly helping someone else down the road and to give back to the community!
cheers

Hi Brett and welcome to SRP!
You have chosen your first razor very, very well! As long as it is in good shape, the King Cutter is an excellent blade that will serve you well fro many years to come!
If you've dome much looking around these parts, you'll probably be expecting my first piece of advice: send it out to a pro to have it honed! When I started I went for many many months with a blade that was not shave-ready and it was a miserable experience. And having it properly honed make all the difference in the world.
Best of luck, and if there's any way we can help, just ask.
Kris
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Hey KingCutter!
There are quite a few Toronto residents here abouts
Get that blade tuned up and you have a great shaver there.
Good luck and welcome.

Thanked: 0Thank you for the warm welcome gentlemen I live in Georgetown just an hour west of Toronto but I'm having trouble finding a pro to send it to. I just posted in the razor thread with some pictures of my blade.

I know Nate is on a kind of break from honing but there are quite a few guys in Toronto area that may be able to help you.
You could always send it to Classic Edge. Let me know, if you need help I could do it for you.

Welcome to the most friendly, helpful and informative site on the Web!!
I would also ask that you get the razor honed by a Pro!!! Then you will have a base to know how things are going!!
There is a Huge Leaning Curve with shaving with a straight razor and the more variables you can eliminate, the better!!
If you don't mind having a Yank hone your razor give me a PM and I'll let you know my recommendation to my favorite Pro Honer! Don't get me wrong, I do hone my own, but I've also asked that he hone a couple and finish with what I use so I could have something to compare with! (I'm doing well, I'm not in his league but I'm almost there) hehehe
Seriously, the small amount that shipping, honing and return shipping will pay itself off in the rewards you will receive!!
Again, Welcome! It's a whole new world and one that I'm so glad that I found!!

Welcome to SRP. The King Cutter is a great razor, once you have a proper bevel it will be a treat to shave with.
