Thanked: 0Hello, new member here
Hello,
My name is Wade, I've been lurking your site for a month now and decided to join. I want to make a switch to a straight razor after years of throwing money away on cartridges. I have a few questions I am confident you all can help me with.
I have not bought anything yet, and know this is an investment so....
1. I am looking at getting a Dovo 5/8 imit. tortoise shell. I figured this would be a good starting point and there are almost no new razors of reputable brands in stock anywhere but this one is available and I like how it looks. I would like to get something preferably with wood scales ( I woodwork in my partime as a hobby, so I am quite drawn to some of the beautiful razors out there) but figure If I enjoy straight razor shaving that is something I could get later down and road. Any thoughts on this particular Dovo?
2. How much should I spend on my first strop? I'm on a budget so I can't go crazy right away, but really want to make the jump and have some extra cash now to get started.
3. Is a razor, strop and soap enough to get me started until a month or so?
Thanks for having me!

Welcome in,
If you have a belt grab a butter knife and practice with the spine side of it.
Get the flip and muscle memory down.
The SRD, Illinois (From), and Big Daddy are all affordable quality products.
I do not have any experience with the Whipped Dog strops. It is just Whisker Whacking
Relax and Enjoy!
