    Default Bitten by the bug

    Hi All,

Rob here, I have been playing with knives for the last few years, I have made a couple of basic workshop knives and own a reasonably good set of stones etc. A 10000 to come and my 0.5 micron diamond paste is on its way.

I have been reading the forums and thought it was time to sign up and say hello

    I HAVE NOW FOUND RAZORS

I have puchased three razors one a crown and sword ern 1166, scales are stuffed and I am pretty sure razor is too. Name: crown&swordern1166.jpg

Looks like someone has attacked it with a file, angles are all wrong, width is only about 1/2"

The second is a salamander 100, I have polished the razor, about to hone. pic is the state i bought it in, polished pic to comeName: salamander.jpg

I had a quick hone and shave down my sideburns before I polished this, Was a very awesome experience, no razor burn or nicks. Would take arm hairs off half way.

The third a bengall with a small chip at the front, I would like to do a unpinned restore on this one, Can someone give me a bit of advice if its worth doing with the chip in it, there is another one on trademe with broken scales with what looks to be a undamaged razor

pics of as it collected the bengall last nightName: 2013-05-23 08.55.52.jpg

G'day and welcome. The Bengall looks pretty good. The chip will hone out easily and you've got plenty of blade to play with. They're a very good shaving razor when properly honed so I think it's definitely worth giving a little love to.

    Thanks for the replies.

Can anyone tell me what the scales are made from just by looking at them.

Also can we date range the razor from the blade engraving

The scales on the Bengall will be plastic. The Salamander scales look to be plastic. Not sure about the other razor. Bengall and Salamander look to be of a modern design. Anywhere from 1890 until 1940 as a guess. Again, hard to tell anything from that picture of the ERN
