    Default Introduction: Andygent

I was advised to post in the member introductions sub-forum, so here goes:

I started using DE razors and a proper brush and soap about 2 years ago, and I am never going back to the goo and cartridge sham.

Now I am sporting a Merkur slant and Simpson Chubby 2 Best. I love this setup, but as I am always looking for the superb shave I have started looking into straight razors.

I have yet to buy my first straight and strop, but hope to go for it soon. In the nearest future my goal is to find my first straight. As with DE, I started with some beginner quality stuff. My Merkur HD worked out nicely, but my Mühle super badger brush was so thinly packed that I can hardly believe I actually used that for about 6 months before getting a tight packed Simpson.

With this in mind, I wish to find a quality razor which I won't more or less regret as a poor first choice. I am considering Dovo best quality 5/8 or TI le dandy 5/8, and might go for TI among the two. Those are of course not too expensive, so I might ramp up the spending money on this particular purchase if that results in a better choice for me.

I do realize that there is a lenghtier learning curve with straights than with DE's, and that the "best" straights require more skill to use (much in the same way I bought my Merkur slant long after mastering the basic technique with Merkur HD).

Greetings from Norway and hope to learn much about the art of straight razors in here

    Sincerely,
    Andygent

    Welcome to SRP

You should do just fine as you have already learned the lessons that are shared between DE's and Straights.

Have fun shopping for your first.

    Welcome to the forum Andygent
One big advantage is you will have the prep down when you do transition to a straight.
    It is just Whisker Whacking
    Relax and Enjoy!
