Thread: Newbie needing advice

Hello, I recently purchased a Parker SR2 to begin the process of straight razor shaving. Before I go any further, I would like to say if your advice is for me to skip the DE razor and buy a real straight, please abstain from doing so. I like not having to strop and hone each time I shave.

I make sure to shave after a hot shower and make sure to keep my angle consistently shallow, but today I got major razor burn under my neck. What am I doing wrong? Should I not shave every day? Any recommendations on how to avoid/treat razor burn?

They're both an alum compound, but my understanding is the composition is a little different. The alum block doesn't work as fast or well on a cut, but is designed to close and soothe minor abrasions and burn. I never had one until a couple of months ago, but now I use it every day. It's about the size of a small bar of soap. It does take the burn away, but stings like an ant for a few seconds when applied.

Edit: Thought I'd just add....if you don't get razor burn, which I don't, we all get little, well, weepers and non weepers that the alum block takes care of. I just find that I like using it instead of Witch Hazel.
