Hello from Israel
Hello everyone,
This morning I got my 50th birthday present from/to myself - a Dovo stainless steel 5/8 straight razor with olive wood scales.
This is my first straight razor after more than 30 years of all kinds of electrical shavers and disposable blades and needless to say I'm excited as I was 33 years ago before my first shave.
So I ignored my first shave this morning (with Mach 3) and had my first shave with the new razor. It was honed and stropped out of the box so I decided to give it a try as is. (It's from the classicedge.ca)
I was surprised to hear that wonderful sound from the razor sliding on my face, I didn't think I still have what to remove after my last shave with the old disposable razor just a few hours earlier.
Anyway, I'm after my first straight razor shave and it feels wonderful. I just think I'll have to replace my aftershave lotion to one without alcohol.
In Israel straight razor shaving is very rare. I don't know even one person who uses it... But thanks to the Internet I can order whatever I need, and who knows, maybe I will start a new/old fashion here :-)
Thank you all for your support,
Michael

Welcome and congratulations. Great choice of scale material to complement your location. I also have a Dovo stainless. Mine is a # 41 with MOP scales and it shaves very well. I enjoy my stainless straight razors for not having to be concerned about getting lather or water between the scales and shank from my fingers or rinsing and possibly water staining or rusting them (for carbon blades), if I fail to adequately clean and dry them.
Although there is a lot of forum activity from the US, including from the greater Boston area, I have yet to meet a person during every day life who uses a straight razor. I also have not met anyone for years who uses a SE, DE, or injector razor, although almost everyone used these razors in the past when I first started shaving. The only place I ever saw a SR in use was in barber shops where they were used for line ups. The SR disappeared from US barber shops with disposable blade shavettes replacing them after HIV transmission became a concern. There is a very limited supply of DE blades and wet shaving supplies remaining in pharmacies and supermarkets signifying that there must still be a small population of SR, DE, SE, or injector razor users.Last edited by sheajohnw; 06-04-2013 at 02:07 PM.

Manah is a true straight razor connoisseur, if I were you, I would meet up with him for some hands on mentorship. Enjoy the hobby and beware of the RAD!
