Thanked: 0introduction
hello all
i have recently found the joy of the cut throat,i have had to wait till im 42 before i realised that the old way was the best.i always struggled with shaving with the normal wet shave toys and dry shaving with the electric shavers.
i started with the replacement blade cut throat then thought i would do it properly as i enjoyed doing it ,so, i now have a murdock of london cut throat which feels and looks great.
what i would like to add is, i brought the welsh slate hone that seems to be a lot on e bay at a very resonable price,i have had some experience of sharpening knifes and tools for leather so although im no expert i thought i would have a go.
i tried to get some info about the best way to use this but did not find much help as it does not seem that many people use it. i did get a great result with it however so i thought i would tell you on here.
the best way i found was if it is used with a fine oil it works brilliantly,i had tried water but i did not seem to do much at all but as soon as i used the oil it only took 10-20 swipes before it was passing the hanging hair test and shaving fantastic.
great forum and look forward to reading some more articles.

Thanked: 498First welcome to the forum. Welsh slate is a fine stone usually used as a finish polishing stone. My Welsh slate would never see oil in my lifetime. "WATER ONLY"
As far as seeing results, being that its a finishing stone I'm not quite sure what your expecting. You should be poping hairs well before you even get to the finishing stones.
Check out some of the honing videos in this forum by, some of the most brilliant straight razor restores & honers in the business. There you will learn technique and proper stone progression.
Good luck and once again welcome

G'Day and welcome to the fold.
I have to agree with Tarkus that the Welsh set need only water and a little slurry, however having said that, you seem to have got good results so, well done.Hang on and enjoy the ride...
