    Default Hi from Arizona!

    Hey all,
I am new to straight razor shaving and new to this form! I currently work in a career that i must be clean shaved every day. normal cartridge razors have left me with disappointing shaves and sometimes uncomfortable shaves. When I was looking at getting into this hobby I came across this page and it was very helpful on how to get started. I contacted Larry from whippeddog.com via email and phone and he was very helpful and had a lot of advice for a beginner such as myself! I should get my order tomorrow and I am very excited to get started on learning this skill!

With that said I was wondering if there is any other Arizona people on this thread as well. It would be nice to share some local shops to go to. Also I was wondering if anyone has any good advice on soaps, creams or a combination of them both. Look forward to being part of this community!

    G'Day Shane and welcome.

Have a look at the sticky at the top of this page (I think) and you should be able to track down some locals
Hang on and enjoy the ride...

I won't be down to AZ till nov/dec, but if you can't find anyone else, I'll be in Apache Junction/Mesa around then.

I'm up in Phoenix. I'm pretty new to this whole art as well. I'm trying to track down a shop that I can get some good stuff and advice at. I've been reading this page most of the day and I have figured out one thing for sure. I've been doing it all wrong hahahahaha. Welcome.

Compared to what I've found up here in Alberta, you can find some good stuff I in some of the antique stores around there. I had to leave a dozen behind due to budgetary constraints in the Phoenix area, just check out the what not to buy in the wiki and you'll be fine. You'll probably have to get them honed, though.

Welcome to SRP, I'm just up the road from you in Tucson. Be sure to read the helpful links on the home page if you have not done so already. If you have questions you can't find answers to then just post your questions. We're here to help. Once RAD kicks in and trust me it will, head over to the antique shops in Bisbee or Tombstone, I've always had good luck going there. Globe was a bust. So-so luck in Phoenix and Glendale, more miss than hit. Take a look around your own neighborhood shops, you never know what you'll find.

As for your questions regarding soaps & creams, half the fun of this hobby/addiction is experimenting with all the options out there. There is more to shaving cream than just the canned goo sold at your neighborhood store. This forum is full of recommendations, so the ball is in your court.
