Default Greetings from yet another straight shaver wannabe! ;-)

Hi all, I'm Miche from Chicago. I've recently started DE shaving and because of my excitement over finally enjoying the ritual of shaving, a coworker gave me a straight that she'd had in a drawer (a Clauberg Tonsorial Gem that's on its way to Glen of Gemstar Customs for honing). It sat on my shelf for a month, while I would occasionally pick it up and get a feel for it. I finally made up my mind to learn to use it, so here I am, out of lurking, ready to join the community and learn as much as I can. Before I've even had a razor to my face, RAD hit and I started looking at every site, trying to find a "prize" razor without having the experience to know one if I saw it. So I slowed all that down and I did buy a 2nd (we won't talk about the two in between) razor so that I can have two in rotation and refine my technique. I've learned a LOT by reading and now look forward to learning by doing.

G'Day and welcome to SRP, Miche.

Lots of useful info here as you have already found out.

The 'Tonsorial Gem' is a fine shaver. I've got one on the bench waiting for some TLC.

I restored one for my local barber who loves it.
Hang on and enjoy the ride...

Thank you, Havachat45. Yeah, I've been reading for the past month or so - the Wiki, video tutorials, the various threads...

I'm glad to hear the the Tonsorial Gem makes a good shaver. I should have it back next week, ready to press into action. It needs a little cleaning up but I felt it was more important to just get it honed and learn, for now.

Thank you, jfleming9232! Because of the expected learning curve I'm keeping my Futur on standby. I will start out only doing the more planar parts of my face until I'm comfortable. I expect I'm going to have a ball!

Sounds like a great plan, and should lead to one happy str8 shaver...
