Oops! I initially joined that forum, but left soon after because I was looking for one more specifically tailored to the straight razor shave community.

Hope none of you hold it against me!

Oldsoul93, Happy Birthday. I purchased the same razor as you and have been pleased with it so far. I would recommend trying a shave first with it before stropping especially if you have no experience stropping. You could actually dull the blade while learning the art of stropping. Also, this will give you a baseline to start with. You will know what shave ready feels like and then practice stropping to try to get back to that point. I didn't do that and I regret it because my first few stroppings dulled the blade a bit. I have gotten it back to manageable but its probably time to send it off for rehoning. Good luck!

Str8tlkr, Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely shave before I attempt to strop. Also comforting to know there is another satisfied Aust user. This manufacturer seems to be relatively under the radar right now, at least in the states.
