Default Hello From Salt Lake Utah!

    Hello all!

As i am sure you all guessed I am new here. I am also new to " Wet Shaving" only been doing it for about 2 weeks now.

I am a knife nut and own a lot of blades and do make some as well so i decided i should shave with one too! i did not want to buy a new razor i wanted vintage for my first razor. i wanted something that i had time into and that i could say " Yeah, I did that" so i went on eBay and found a old Keen Kutter that was in okayish shape ( I know, " nOObs" should not try to buy non restored vintage or try to sharpen there own razor.) So i figured knowing what i know about steel and edges i would give it shot, after a fierce biding battle i won the blade!
I got it in the mail about a week later and went to work on polishing, cleaning, and restoring the razor. I still have a little work to do on it but wanted to shave with it so bad! so sharpened it up! and there was little bit of a learning curve to that. I am used to sharpening pocket and hunting knives for the most part so you have to lift you arm as you stroke in order to fallow the bevel properly. With the straight you wanted to keep it as flat as possible so took me a little bit to get used to that but i was successful! So after sharpening i ran to the bathroom to lather up my Van Der Hagen Deluxe shave kit i bought the week before in excitement of winning the razor and had my first shave with a straight razor!
2 weeks later i am razor burn free for the most part after figuring out the right angle and pattern of my beard hair. Still have a few spots i have to clean up with my Fusion on my neck but all in all it is going well! I still have a little work yet to do on the razor, a few spots to polish and few spots of this black tar like stuff that i am having a hell of a time getting off the blade. But i am hooked in straight shaving for life now! there is no way i would go back to full cartage shaving now.
I am very glade to be here and hope i will learn much from all of you!

    G'Day and welcome to SRP.

Now that you have made the leap into cut-throat shaving and made less nOOb mistakes than I did, you can continue the journey with some of the info available here.

I haven't got a Keen Cutter (which means I need one....hehehehehe) but it looks nice.

For honing tips go to YouTube and search 'gssixgun' and follow Glen's method - it works for me.

Good luck and glad to have you on board
Hang on and enjoy the ride...

Welcome in, and a grand entrance indeed!

I don't know if I qualify as knife nut, gun nut, or just nut but I am in there somewhere.

Enjoy the shave, check out the vids mentioned above, ask if you have any questions, and we are glade to have ya.
    It is just Whisker Whacking
    Relax and Enjoy!
