    Default newbie from Montreal

Hi guys, i'm Marc André, new member from Montreal.

Been spending the last 2-3 years in the coffee forums feeding a habit for good espresso. Last father's day, my wife gave me a nice badger and some shaving cream she picked up from a shop in Montreal that has 3rd wave espresso and shaving equipment (yeah, very hipster-ish concept). It's Myriade's second coffee spot, should any of you be from Mtl.

I am an engineer and work in an industrial design firm. As such, I have a real inclination for things that are reduced to their simplest expression. There is usually an elegance and a certain level of "savoir faire" that is associated to theses things and this appeals to me. That is why i love manual espresso machines as well as fixed gear bikes. Straight razor shaving fits into this category as well and it seems my lovely wife has sent me down this new road.

So, i have a badger (i think it is a nice one, from baxter of california, badger hair silver tip). Now i am looking into a razor and strop.

This site has helped a lot in answering some questions. I'll see you guys in to forums once i've acquainted myself with my equipment and possibly screwed something up.

Hey and welcome to the forum. Sounds like SR shaving will be right up your alley in the back to basics department. If you have any questions or concerns people here will be more than happy to help out. Yea, Phil's straights do come shave ready and he is good to deal with too. Enjoy your journey.

Thanks for the replies guys, I see this forum is very active and that's cool. Also nice to see some fellow Canadians and Montrealers

Will defiantly look into classic edge, I had noticed this site when searching google.

Va2gxb, as for the OIQ, well don't get me started on them! Well have a nice private conversation on why they irk me so much ;-).

    Cheers!

    Welcome Marc-André,

Always a pleasure to see more Montrealers interested in straight razor shaving. As far as learning this art, I find a similar analogy can be made with your manual lever espresso machine. At first the shots were probably not so great, and as you gradually figure it out, the shots get better Once you really get the hang of it, you can't go back to what you used before.

If you are french speaking, another forum with lots of Montrealers is coupechouclub.

    Au plaisir!

Yup, except that a lousy shave results in blood whereas a lousy shot results only in a funny face
