Hi from the Outer Banks of North Carolina
I discovered this site earlier this week, and it caused me to pull out my Hoffritz razor and my strop. I bought both 30 years ago and began to shave with a straight razor then. Unfortunately, I gave up, because I had to be at work an hour away by 6:30 am and didn't want to give the time to be patient at 5 in the morning.
I started my first modern shave yesterday, and boy do I wish videos on-line and the coaching and tips everyone gives had existed "back in the day". I'm now retired, with no schedule, so I'm starting up again. So far, I'm doing onlt the sideburns down with downward strokes, but plan to pick up the pace as the days go by and I get better.

Hope you had a good time. We live in Nags Head for the last 10 years on the Sound side. Love it, and love this forum.
