William Rodgers.
The cutler's name and its trademark - a picture of a mincing knife and the words "I CUT MY WAY" - proved popular in the late 19th and into the 20th century. Apparently, the firm was established in 1830 and by 1852 had located to St.Thomas Street(when William was about 35 years old). William Rodgers was listed in the 1852 directory, making spring knives, and blades, springs and scales. In the 1861 Census, William was described as a brass caster. The firm was active until the 1870s. However, Thomas Hobson used the mark in the late 19th century, suggesting that William Rodgers had ceased trading. In a Sheffield trade directory of 1911, John Clark advertised the trademark as its own and used it to good effect in the 20th century. The "I CUT MY WAY" mark was acquired after the 1980s by the Egginton Group.
