Thread: New Baby forcing a change in storage options

Well the new boy is here. I have been thinking for a while I would have to change my storage choice once he was here. I currently use for my straights an DE's in rotation an old jewelry box with doors an a couple drawers. This works great but doesn't have any locks. All my DE blades an acc. are in a up high cabinet locked away. Just need to find some locks an if that doesn't work then look for a better option.

Put your straights in a small gun locker that can be coded or keyed & still keep it right there in the bathroom,,,,

like one of these types,,,

I just thought of a cheaper way,,, Wal Mart has steel money boxes with locks, in their office supplies section,,,, like the ones that people put money in at ball games.

Congratulations on the addition to your family. You do have a little time before he is into everything. The money box is a good suggestion. For larger collections there is machinist tool boxes too that help to keep you organized and they have a lock on them. There are a couple of vendors on the net that get them from offshore for a very small amount of cash.

I have a 2 yr old and although this isn't 100% child proof, I now store all my razors in one of these (out of reach of 2 yr old hands) with some desiccant inside. It keeps them from being easily accessible and the desiccant keeps the water off. Could probably mod it pretty easy to make it even more child proof.

With a 3 and a 1 year old I hear you. We have drawers in our bathroom vanity. We installed magnetic child locks and a cutlery tray. I keep tooth paste and nail cutters in the front and the blades in rotation in the back.

These are the locks. They are bullet proof in our house. It takes some finess to open even when you know how to use it. We have them in the kitchen as well and the in laws still have a problem with them .

I'm all for storing the sharp stuff high and out of reach. I've got a 3 yr old and I keep my straights in the bathroom closet on the highest shelf. I keep my de on a self made shelf above the sink. The best thing I've done though is to teach my son the dangers of sharp items so that even when he had access, he knew not to touch. I also gave him his own brush and have contemplated giving him his own de, since that usually curbs his desire to touch mine if he already had his own. Congrats on the new addition to the family!

I was thinking the same thing for my daughter's. Just a wooden straight razor that can fold. Blunt as a stump and all pink. Hmm.
