Thanked: 23Scuttles with holes in the lather cup?
How do you use the scuttles with holes where the lather goes? What are the holes for?
Thanks.

Thanked: 3226If you mean like in the third photo from this link Antique Porcelain Shaving Scuttle Mug Old Foley James Kent Made in England | eBay then that is where the soap goes. Some soap pucks are still made with a rounded bottom to fit these scuttle. You load your brush and face lather with these.

They can be used as above. I use a thumbnail sized bit of sticky soft soap smeared into the bottom and side of the holey part and whip a lather from there. that works for creams too. I also use a shave stick on my face and the lathered brush goes onto the holey part or into the bottom for more hot water.
Have fun there are a lot of different types out there and they can be useful tool as well as a collectors pride.

I face lather. I use an old scuttle w/ holes to put my brush on between lathers. The steam that goes up through the holes keep the brush and lather nice and warm.
