great idea for low cost scuttle. I agree with the suggestion of using epoxy of some kind to make ridges or grooves in the bowl. This would save a lot of time and probably mix a better lather.

Thanked: 7I tried both... the bathroom tub floor non--slip strips and the epoxy. I love them both. The strips for non-permanent camouflaged in a white bowl to try to make it look nice. The epoxy you can do some cool designs inside, and it dries like a rock. Thats awesome. Never used it before now.
Either way it would add $5 more to the total cost of the cheap scuttle. But it helps with making lather tremendously.
Thanks guys for the ideas.

Thanked: 7UPDATE:
4 years later i still use my DIY scuttle. The bathroom tub floor non--slip strips have fallen off, but the epoxy remains. Ive also had to replace my rubber bands going around the outer rim of the metal bowl to keep it from popping up when the water is full. Ive even dropped the pitcher the other day and broke off the handle, but epoxied that back on with no issues. The thing just keeps on working. I figured i would update so someone else (new to razors and cheap) would know that this works well.

I have done similar in the past and it works well. Then I went REALLY cheap and just started face lathering.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

We had a thread some time ago. As I recall it was "shaving on the cheap".
Maybe we should start another one where everyone can contribute all the McGyver solutions to wet shaving. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Dude, I so could have written this very thread save for the epoxy. And my “pitcher” is my coffee cup.
Seriously, I make a coffee every morning using a French Press and a kettle. As soon as the kettle boils and the coffee is poured, I go upstairs and either make a later in my stainless bowl, or throw the soap in to warm AND my brush - after which I put it on top of my coffee cup. Keeps the lather/brush warm, and the coffee too. Win/win.
Works for me.David
