Thread: "preserving" for razors

Here is my new way for storing some of my razors, it seems to work for me

A old vacola preserving jar with a few magnets on the inside of the lid. they are hanging even though the photos don't really show that.

this has eight but i reckon i could fit more if i was desperate on room. they aren't too fiddly to get out when the need arises.



i like it because they are still displayed as well as out of the way and organised. better than laid out on the self like before.

next step is to put some moisture absorbing crystals in the bottom and clean up a few taller ones for longer razors.

Has kind of a steam punk vibe to it

Looks very cool but, keep them out of the sun and definitely use a desiccant to keep the condensation at bay. If you use a razor make sure it is very dry before you put it in.

Is that just direct sunlight or will sitting on a self in a sunny room (out of direct sun) still be harmful?

If you have celluloid scales light is their enemy. The brighter it is the more damage can be done. Ideally they should be kept in the dark.

Even modern plastics don't do well in sun and if you add heat your looking at a death sentence for the scales. Artificial light should not be a problem. The last disaster thread I read about a Dubl Duck (celluloid scales) is when A fellow left his sitting on a window sill. Came back to it and the scales shrank, twisted, warped and probably put off some gas. The off gassing eats steel like a tiny lasers, not in a day but it's not particular and will eat the steel on it's closest neighbor too. Like I said it's a cool way too display just be careful where you place them. Wouldn't want the drapes to blow open and have the sun cook a nice collection.

it took me a while but i got there, i think there is a little confusion, they are just on the window sill for the photo for the light. storage is on a self around the corner.

Would not think storing Razors that get used in a glass container to be a good thing.JMO

why not? if they are properly dried and there is some sort of moisture absorbing in the bottom?
