    Honestly I have always wondered how these are supposed to be used. I would have to force almost all my brushes in them and never could figure out if the other side is for holding soaps and hot water inside to keep it warm.

    Ha! Another thread is going on about them. I too, think modern-style brushes will not fit into some.
    I think you are spot-on with the rest.

    I wonder if you filled it near the top of the mouth and just dipped the tips a bit at a time in it.
    The hot water would be available and warm the puck. If you over watered it, it would drain back down.
