Turn of the 20th century brush holder
I'm not sure how prevalent these brush holders were. I've seen a few others. All broken sadly. They all have the same features. Cylinder shape about 4 1/2" tall with drain holes in the base. Most have a spout on the side to eliminate water that has drained into the base. This one is from the Myrtle Bank Hotel in Jamaica just outside of Kingston. The hotel dated to the mid 1800's when it was converted from a ship yard to a boarding house. It was acquired by the government in 1875 and had a huge make over in preparation of the Great Exhibition of 1891. It was destroyed by an earthquake is 1907. The trade mark on the bottom dates from 1896 - 1906.
This one holds my toothbrush. I can't bring myself to store a brush standing on its knot but I guess that is how it was done back in the day.
Can anyone shed any more light on the history of these?

Very nice pick!!
For tooth brushes I was told by a real old timer. They often came paired with a shave mug. Could be for shave brushes though. Have to have them upside down and the old horsehair and Boar knots will split the ferrule when they get waterlogged. That's why Rubberset became popular!

Very nice Richard. First I have seen as a pair. Does the toothbrush/brush holder have a drain holes?
