I have hard water, and I can't use it to make lather. There is no "load the brush longer" approach. My girlfriend works in a virology and immunology lab at Virginia tech, so I've been using lab grade distilled/deionized water with great success. I've loaded a large badger brush for 60 seconds with xpec, first pass was ok, no glide, no cushion. Second pass was not possible because all the lather in my brush had disappeared. I even feel that just by rinsing my razor in sink water negatively effects the shave. So my plan is to get a large foam piece to put in my sink while shaving to just wipe the blade with no rinsing. Oh yea, filtering water does not change the hardness of the water, so unless you spend a few grand in water treatment your best bet is bottled water.

Does store bought Distilled and or bottled not distilled water work as well as lab water?
