    Default Alum

My alum block is smooth on one side but it feels like a kittens claws are hanging out the other side. I tried to give it a regrind with my wife's emery board ( might have ruined it ) The problem is still there. How do I get this little beast to tame ? This isn't unguent yet but all help is appreciated before 8 P.M. today.

Move it around in your hands like a bar of soap, under warm water. This will round out the sharpies,,,, also rinse out the container on occasion,,, each time you put it back in the container after use,, the sharpies form & stick to the bar.

    Hirlau has it right.
The claws are just crystals of alum and they will dissolve.
I rub mine on a wet hand and then wipe it on my damp face.
I also keep mine on one of the old glass razor hones so only the edges touch.
The old DE glass razor hones are almost worthless as hones but make a
    great alum block stand.
    Bottom line do not worry....

I always put it up dry but this is a new big block and it is kind of rough, and it doesn't seem to polish out as easy as I thought. It seems more like an ice glacier with air pockets in it .

    ,,,,
i just have a horrible method of keeping up with posts,,, I've had great threads pop up from years ago that I missed. I usually hit the "new posts" button all the time, but still miss some .

I'll go look for the dog one,,

I tried it and it just got worse. If any of you guys are willing to take your alum block and run it under warm or hot water, and with your free hand rub it like you are polishing off one side. Please do and tell me what happens You might be surprised to see how difficult it can be to lap your alum block.

I gave you advice based on experience,,,,

    But,,,,,

I just went into the bathroom & did what you just asked & for the up-teneeth , 1 zillionth time (5 years of using an alum block) I got the same result,,,,,,,

A smooth , comfortable alum block,,, lapped so smooth,,, I would even consider applying it to my secret private parts,,,

So,,,, if your alum bar is causing you problems & the above treatment is not helping,, then consider getting another alum block.

PM me with an address & name & I will see that you get a Shavex alum block sent to you before the day is over.

It isn't private parts or some lady's leg !!! Rub the piss out of it like it was rough and you want one side smooth for the first time.
