Thread: Totally shocked there isn't an "electric scuttle" out there

I love my scuttle, but sometimes the fill, heat, empty, fill, empty thing is a bit much. I wouldn't trade mine, but I'm kinda surprised no one sells an electric
scuttle. It's basically hot pot technology that would just need some customization.

My wife got one of these mini crock pots for Christmas and it immediately entered my mind to use it as an electric scuttle, but I haven't tried it yet

Before I crossed over to the way of the cold/cool/tap water temp shave...I was using one of those cup warmers with my "scuttle" (a Latte mug from the cast off bin @ WallyWorld)
Without a washcloth draped over it there was a tendency to dry out.

It might be a bit of overkill, but how about an electric Samovar?

Plenty of hot water and you could replace the tea pot with your shaving scuttle!

An electric scuttle would be great!
Someone should play around with a design and actually make one.
When I use my scuttle, I use the hottest tap water. I fill it up. Take a shower.
After the shower I empty it. Refill it with very hot tap water again. Make the lather. When not using the brush and lather I place a wet wash cloth over the opening.
Keeps the heat in. Works very well for me.

A really easy option would be a usb mug warmer and a portable cell phone usb charger station.

To be honest though I have to doubt the practical application of a constant heart source, as I think it is likely to dry out the lather.

I'm sure I've seen barbers on YouTube with some sort of dispenser that gives out hot lather.

Just got into this, but was already thinking the same thoughts. Was looking at the little desktop cup warmers (both AC and USB powered) a couple of nights ago. One slight issue is the designated lather mug (Wiiiiiiide base) that the wife got my initials on for me way back when. Maybe I'll just start drinking out of that and put a smaller mug on a warming plate.

(soap in it's own bowl, then just have a warmed mug or bowl for the lathering - not as awesome as that thing, but simpler)

HOWEVER, in the interests of insanity:

Anyone else use wireless charging on their phones? (I do, and it's pretty much a required feature for me now.) You can buy both DIY charging plates and charging receivers. They work through magnetic induction *hand wavey science talk* fields and such. I'm definitely not thinking that when I redo the bathroom, the counter might have a thin spot underneath with a charging base inserted (invisible from the top), along with an undercounter GFCI, and I might have a bowl (wood, maybe, at least for prototyping) with a receiver inserted and some sort of heating element action going on. Probably won't mention in this in any remodel plans.

PSIU, you can purchase a wireless QI transmitter for mounting under a desktop... you have to hollow it out a bit for the coil and electronics so they can be close enough to the surface of the desktop/counter to work. These are available on Ebay, the last time I looked.

I used to use a plug in antenna on my OnePlus One, but it affected the NFC antenna, so I removed it and went back to plugging a charging cable instead. Unfortunately, there is no factory QI charging back for the OnePlus phones, and worse yet, the two new models have removed the NFC capability which is something I cannot live without.

monkeypuzzlebeefeater: The machine you saw barbers use is a Campbell Latherizer or Lather King. They produce a steady stream of hot lather (when they work...) or warm ice cream as my dad, who was a barber, used to tell young chaps on their first visit, to see if they would take a taste..... The problem is that as soon as you put the lather on your face, it cools off.... A nice big badger brush retains enough heat to keep the lather warm while face lathering. They are finicky machines.... the new all plastic models were very prone to problems from what I heard, and of course, there was always the problem of soap/water mixture if you didn't use the Campbell liquid lather mix that was made for the machines. I'll take a badger brush and my soaps/creams any day over a Campbell. On the other hand, in the old days, If you had a 1/2 dozen barbers all doing shaves in your barber shop, the Campbell was a huge time saver and eliminated the sanitation issue of brushes.
