    Default Scales!!!!

Good morning my brothers in blades! I am wondering if scales are specific to individual razors, or if there are generic brands?

As far as I know many manufacturers had their own patterns for scales. Many are interchangeable.

I have harvested many vintage scales off eBay finds and put them on different blades with no issues.

Some models have inlays like the DD goldedge and Grim Reaper models and there are others so you can of course rescale and remove the foil and replace it or use non descript scales but you probably wouldn't want to put grim reaper Scales on a TI for instance.

I found them all to have basically the same set up. Unless you're trying to use scales from a 5/8th on 8/8 I can't imagine it makes much of difference. Maybe some razors were made longer than others so wouldn't fit. Only issue I ever had was one razor with bakelite scales had a somewhat bigger hole than 1/6th inch so couldn't repin them with the rods I had. Could of just been worn out who knows I'm a noob Lol

I want to thank all that responded to my question it's great to have some where to go to ask questions. Just a bit about me, I have a beard and have used a shavette for years to define it and shave my neck. I am days away from taking the leap to the real thing.
    Again thanks WFJ

A lot of the well known vintage brand of razors definitely had their own patterns, here's a handy reference i use for making some specific scales, just print them out and you can use them as a template reference if you so please.
