Thread: Should Sack-Ups Be Oily?

I received my 2nd Ralf Aust from SRD today. I got the 6/8" round point palisander - VERY NICE! Sorry, had to throw in that shameless plug. Anyway, I got a Sack-Up sleeve for it and it is really oily. The one I got for my first RA, is not oily at all. I was just wondering if they're supposed to be oily or should they be fairly dry? When I pick up the sleeve, it leaves a pretty good film of oil on my hands and if I put the razor inside, I have to wipe it off a lot when I take it out.

I think that this question would have been better directed to SRD instead of posting here.

They would be in a far better position to know best about the products they carry for sale instead of the general pop here at SRP.

Give them an email, they have always answered my questions in a very timely manner.

Sack-ups do feel "damp" when you first get them. I bought them in bulk, for a group buy, from the original company and they came shrink wrapped and felt that way. They do dry out when exposed to air over a few days.

cant say about the Sack ups
but I use other Silicon Impregnated gun socks & never had 1 with an oily feeling to it yet.

I have a few, can't remember where I bought them. The oily silicon residue penetrated my buckeye burl scales on a new TI dreadnought. Not sure what I'm more dissappointed in, TI not sealing their wood scales, the socks being oily, or me not catching it before it happened...

Some tend to be more oily when new than others. It's the way they come from Sack ups. The Sack ups I have for my guns do not feel as oily as the little razor sleeves. Regardless, they do a nice job with any moisture.

Hey, thanks for all the replies! I wasn't sure exactly how they were supposed to be. I got on the Sack-Ups site but didn't really get a lot from it. I put my 5/8" RA in the oily one since it has plastic scales. Not sure if the oil would hurt the wood scales or not but just to be safe...
