Thread: Almost finished my straight razor storage box

All set with the internals, just to need fix everything permanently and apply the finish. Had to make a box joint jig for the table saw but it was a good experience. Next box will have these nice finger joints.

The end grows near. Looking good.

I like the project but I think that you are trying to fit 2 to many razors in the box. I don't care for the way the outside ones touch the edge.

I think it would look much better as a 5 razor set for this size of box

I think the box is plenty big enough, some adjustment on spacing might work that out. It is very common on the older boxes for the outer razors to be very near or touching the sides.

Thanks to both of you - I value the opinions. I'm going to line the sides with the same felt I have in the bottom so that will keep the razors off the sides. I really needed a 7 razor box and this size will fit perfectly in my vanity drawer. That's why I custom made it - to get the size just right.

I had to file out some of the spacers to fit some of the thicker razors, in order to get everything in. With 130mm with which to work, these 10mm blocks where as tight as I could go - same as my smallest width for the dado blade stack. Tried to measure and eye the cuts but that didn't work so I built a box joint jig to get everything uniform and went from there.

So there were some constraints under which I was working - which drove much of the decision making.

I really like seeing boxes being made. I've got a number of cigar boxes slated for conversion as that would be easier for me to start out without box making experience.
One way I've thought about securing for travel, is to take a memory foam pillow and slice off a small amount.
It can be covered with a material and that form fitting quality could be utilized.
That box looks great! Thanks for the ideas

or just add 1/4 more space to the outside two razor slots
