Thread: Scale options

I'm looking at scales and I'm seeing some wood ones that are "stabilized". Not sure what that is. Would think the obvious, something was done to them to keep the wood from changing but that's just a guess.

Yes the wood is soaked in a stabilizer that keeps them from warping, cracking, splitting etc. Wood is not a bad choice but requires a spacer not a wedge because it doesn't bend as easy as most of the other materials.

There is a whole lot going on with scales that doesn't always meet the eye :<0)

Most stabilized wood is done in a vacuum chamber and it is typically some kind of a resin. It is for exactly the purposes that were mentioned above. If done well they can be spectacular.
