Default Using synthetic hair for HHT

I heard or read some where that some people use synthetic hair for their HHTs. I have short hair, and I can't always ask my wife for hers, haha, so this would actually be ideal for me. Has anyone tried this before, or have any input on this idea? If so, where could I find some? Thanks.

Don't bother, anything but facial hair is most likely a false positive or negative for that matter. The Dovo factory claims to test all of its finished blades on a strand of synthetic hair. I say their test is a testament to the many failed factory edges they provide. Shave test my friend, its the only test that matters.

Any hair test needs to be calibrated so that "how" it cuts is the guide, not if it cuts.

The razor should cut a single hair because it is shave ready not the opposite.

In beauty supply stores, they often have natural hair pieces for sale. Made up of long strands of hair, these can be used for the HHT. I view the HHT, consistently applied, as a tool or reference as to the relative state of the edge, not as a goal in itself. The shave is the final arbiter.

Badger hair has been suggested as a good HHT medium. It seems to work for me

I've never tried synthetic hair, but I believe you could find it useful. The HHT is a probing test. It is very subjective in that you are gauging both the probing and the results against what your experience is with past HHTs and final shave tests. So the test is somewhat meaningless without experience and has poor correlation between different hair types and different testers. Try it.

While you will here a lot of arguments for and against the HHT, the use of a synthetic hair for the HHT would be useful due to 1) less affected by humidity, 2) ready supply of identical test medium

My problem with this test is the material itself. It is not hair doesn't behave or is structured like hair and could be made of many different synthetic materials which would complicate things like consistency as a test. At least a hanging hair test uses hair and maybe might be somewhat closer to a test that involves cutting hair. Cutting strands of rayon or nylon or whatever synthetic hair might be made of just doesn't sound helpful. If you need a test is it really so hard to find some real hair lying around on a brush maybe.
