I'm lucky to have a pottery artist in the family, my sister makes these and I get to nit pick... well, most of the time anyway! [emoji38]As the time passes, so we learn.

I own 3 scuttles in the $40+ range. They all sit unused in a closet. I use a candy bowl/goblet from WallyWorld that cost a couple of bucks. The base of the goblet is the perfect shape for easy handling...never has it tried to escape my grasp. As others have said, the material of the bowl is immaterial. As long as you have room to work the lather, and the bowl is easy to handle, that's what really matters.

Ever since seeing some of the bowls in this thread I've been keeping an eye out for something with a little more texture than the one I've been using. I hit a few antiques stores today and came across this one. It's just the sort of thing I was looking for.

I show this bowl in a summer vacation. They were selling popular art items, and in this particular one I liked the size, and the irregular surface due to the paintings. I thought that this surface would help to raise lather in no time and I bought it.
I use it is summer time when there is no need for a typical shaving scuttle with hot water inside to maintain the temperature.

How wide are those 8oz Pyrex bowls? Sounds like a good way to do it but I need room for my brush and sloppy loading of my brush.
It's just Sharpening, right?
