    Default Green Rouge

I have some green rouge: Koyo-sha Co. LTD, Tokyo Japan K-2
Does anyone have experiece with this product; is this a good choice for razors? I thought I could strop with it on denim. From what I have searched it is used for a polishing compound, but not sure of the grit. Also wondering how metal polish would compare to this. I have some lapping film, 1 micron that I using after the 8K Norton.

I've been reading through old honing threads trying to get a better grasp of honing in its entirety.
From what I've found regarding using "other" products than what we typically read about here is that most have been tried, some products have particles that are too large or small..
Also I read that after using a finishing stone, if you go further then the blade becomes too sharp and grabs skin too.
I may have it mixed up, perhaps someone will say there's no "too sharp" or maybe there's more to it...?

Recently I was polishing some blades and thought I had a brilliant idea of using metal polish like Flitz on a cloth or paper to sharpen blade "extra" sharp...

I'm still not sure why it wouldn't work, as long as the residue is cleaned off.
Would it be too sharp? Create a weak edge?

I imagine a perfectly smooth shiny bevel... I think I'm missing something. Definitely I have much to learn.

EDIT: Could I use Flitz on my finishing stone?

Yes, there is a point of too sharp. And I'd say no, to flitz on a finisher.

I wouldnt put polish on a synthetic stone as they are made for water. The binders might not like it. You could get away with putting it on a natural stone but when talking about finishing, id wonder if it would help at all. I dont think it would be any better than the slury of the stone.

And yes! There is such a thing as too sharp.
Mike proved it to me. He sent me a blade to try once as i told him i couldnt believe there was too sharp. He proved me wrong. But then after talking to Glen, he believes an edge can only get so fine before it will fall apart. Dont remember the size he told me but it made sense. So its possible that the razor Mike sent me was at the point of falling apart and that is what made it so harsh to shave with. After 3 or 4 shaves and hundreds and hundreds of laps on a strop, the edge came together and became a nice shave. So IMO, too sharp is just too thin and no strength left in the edge so it breaks off and has to be repaired by stropping a LOT!

Sorry for going off a little on the main question, but too sharp is possible.

    Thanks for replies.
How far should a person go with a sharpening compound?
Is the metal polish too fine?
should I use something like Chromium oxide or stop with the 1 micron lapping film? i just thought that stropping on the denim with some compound at the end would clean the egde.

Try lead, on your denim strop.
Its preferred after a fresh honing by me and a few others here. Mine is a flax linen strop.
