I use the suribachi Bowl every day, except when on vacation.
Mine is a little bigger than the ones in Tom's batch.
It's virtually a lathering machine, and has become a valuable part of my daily shaving routine.
I've never noticed any wear or anything negative happening with any of my brushes.
I have about 15 brushes that I rotate through all of which have synthetic tuxedo knots.

The photo of the bowl listed in the original post does appear to have at quite aggressive grinding element at the base. Thus, I would be a little concerned about brush wear if using it every day. I use the mortar bowl from a ceramic mortar and pestle set. The interior is rough but not super aggressive. It whips up a lather quite quickly. The Amazon link in another shows some bowls that look like they would make wonderful lather bowls. If the bowl I currently use did not work so well, I might be tempted to get one of them.
