Is the inside smooth?
If it is you might try using epoxy to build up some ridges.If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

So i decided before i used the bowl that nomatter what its made out of i put a clear sealer coat on the inside to prevent any damage in case its some type of wood.. I really think its some type of stone though but i figured ot was better to be safe than sorry.
