Thread: Razor Stand Idea for Cyclists

Im new to the straight, and really enjoyed it. So naturally I wanted to have a good place to keep my razor(s).
Also being an avid mountain biker, I had an idea.

I started off with a standard razor stand, just like this one



Then I took a small section of the many chains I have laying around from mountain biking, broke them, cleaned them, and ground the plates just a tad for more clearance. Then using the chain pins, pinned them into holes I drilled into the stand above to look something like this



notice the little clear rubber dots I used to securely hold the end of the razor. I carved out the center of each of these using some burly toe nail clippers I have with very sharp points. A set of dikes aka wire cutters would work just as well I think.

Also worth noting, I was able to use a single hole on the safety razor side of the stand to pin both ends of the chain together. Was a little tricky to press the pin through 4 plates and the metal plate on the stand, but not bad.


Here's what it looks like loaded up with my brush, merkur hd on the back, a 6/8 Dovo Special, and a 13/16 Wacker

Welcome to SRP.Nice first post.Innovative and true to your lifestyle/hobby.Turned out nice and is very creative.Only problem I see is only two holes for razors.When RAD (razor acquisition disorder) sets in,you'll need more space.For now,though,nice job and keep up the innovative ideas.

Im already working on an idea for an additional storage\display rack using some leftover parts I have from a worn out bike cassette and rear hub.

I'll probably end up bumping this thread with it when I finally get around to finishing it.

That's not a bad idea and it does look good, but I do have a concern: if the razors are carbon steel and the brush is damp, which it has to be if it was just used, rinsed, and shaken out, the air around the razors has to have an increased moisture level which may encourage rusting and any damp bristles may even contact the blade(s). It may be nothing to worry about or it may be something to think about...

I had thought about that, and both razors in that stand are carbon steel.

I always shake my brush pretty darn dry before hanging it.
Also, here in Colorado, the relative humidity is so low, the brush seems to be completely dry by the time I wake up if having shaved at night.

I also offset those little rubber dots so that the razor would point away from the brush to make sure they could never touch. Hard to see that in those pictures at that angle. The chain itself is also bent away from the brush at the single pin location to keep things biased more away from the brush.

as it is, with multiple razors, and the frequency at which I shave (once every 2 or 3 days), its not at all inconvenient for me to place some oil on the razor I just used, and thus wont be using for 4-6days based off my schedule, since I rotate their usage. That is also assuming I never use my DE Merkur if I am short on time for whatever reason.
